Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the websites owned and operated by the Washington Surveying and Rating Bureau, Inc. (“WSRB”, “we”, or “us”), including our WSRB website located at www.wsrb.com and the website of our subsidiary, BuildingMetrix, Inc., located at www.buildingmetrix.com (collectively, the "Websites"). We take the protection and security of the information provided to us by visitors to the Website (“you”) very seriously. The privacy and security of your information are important to us. 

This Privacy Policy sets forth how we use information collected when you visit the Website or use the products and services available on our Websites (the “Services"). You should read this Privacy Policy carefully. 

 

What this Privacy Policy covers 

This Privacy Policy covers our treatment of personally identifiable information and non-personal information that is collected when you visit our Websites, and when you use our Services. For purposes of this Privacy Policy, “personally identifiable information” means your name, address, telephone number, email address, business name, and job title, or other information that can be used, either individually or collectively, to personally identify you.

By visiting the Websites, providing personally identifiable information, or using the Services, you consent to the collection and use of your personally identifiable information in accordance with this Privacy Policy and as permitted or required by law. This Privacy Policy only applies to personally identifiable information collected from our WSRB or BuildingMetrix Websites. This Privacy Policy does not apply to the practices of companies that we do not own or control, or to people that we do not employ or manage, or to sites that link to or are linked from the Websites. You should review the Privacy Policies or practices of any third-party company or any website which links to or is linked from this Website. Questions regarding the privacy practices of any third-party company or website should be directed to their appropriate contact.  

 

Information collection 

We collect personally identifiable and non-personal information in the following situations: 

Register for an account 

When you register or subscribe with us, we ask for your name, email address, physical address, phone number, type of business, business name, job role, and other information required to verify you are authorized to use the Websites (your “Account Information”). Once you register with us and log in to our Services, you are not anonymous to us and we store all activity on your account in conjunction with your username and Account Information. 

We use this information to set up your account and provide the Services you request. 

Request services 

When you request forms, reports, surveys, maps, data, property information, or other resources available through the Services, we collect information necessary to fulfill your requests, such as the property address or other location information. A record of all of your orders placed through the Services is stored with your Account Information. 

We use this information to provide the Services you requested and to advertise additional WSRB Services available to you for a particular property address or location.  

Information you provide  

We collect any personally identifiable information you voluntarily provide, such as when you contact us with a question or inquiry. We use this information to respond to your inquiryfulfill your request, or send you email communications. 

Social media 

If you interact with any of our social media accounts, we may collect information regarding that interaction, such as your account username and the contents of your post or communication, in order to respond to you or address your concern. 

Device information 

We also automatically receive and record information on our server logs from your browser, including your IP address, geographic location, browser type, duration of visit to the Website, cookie information, and the page(s) you requested. 

 

Information use 

We use your personally identifiable information and non-personal information for the following general purposes: (1) to create your account and fulfill your requests for certain products and services; (2) to ensure accurate billing; (3) to notify you about new products or services; and (4) advertise additional WSRB Services to you; and (5) to contact you when appropriate. 

 We use your non-personal information to (1) customize the content you see, (2) evaluate trends, and (3) improve our Websites and Services.

 
Information sharing and disclosure 

We do not sell your personally identifiable information for any reason. 

Your use of the Service is entirely at the discretion of you and/or your employer. We will not provide your personally identifiable information about your use of this Service to any other entity, except in response to a request from your employer, subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or as set forth below. 

We may share your contact information with other organizations with which we have a business relationship. These affiliated organizations may use this information to contact you from time to time regarding the products and services they offer. If you want to prevent an affiliate from contacting you, you may do so by using the "opt-out" methods provided by the affiliate. 

We also share the property address for which you request a report with third-party providers, such as a mapping software provider or property inspector, in order to fulfill your request. 

We may provide the names of insurance company users of our Services to applicable insurance regulatory organizations. However, we do not provide any personally identifiable information to such organizations. 

Cookies 

We may set and access cookies on your computer. Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that we transfer to your computer's hard drive through your web browser for record-keeping purposes. Some cookies allow us to make it easier for you to navigate our Websites, while others are used to enable a faster log–in process or to allow us to track your activities at our Websites. Our cookies generally do not contain personally identifiable information. Any personally identifiable information contained in a cookie is a result of your input of information on the Websites, such as when you enter your username and password in the login form. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies; however, some browsers allow cookies to be disabled. Check the settings for your particular browser if you wish to disable cookies. 

Google Analytics 

We use a tool called Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. ("Google"), which uses cookies to collect information about the usage of our Websites. The information generated by the cookie, including how often users visit the Websites, what pages they visit when they do so, and what other sites they used prior to coming to the Websites, will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit the Websites, rather than your name or other personally identifiable information. Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of our Websites, compiling reports on activity on our Websites, and providing other services relating to Website activity and internet usage, which is then provided to us. Advertising 

In addition to using cookies as described above, we also may use third-party vendor remarketing tracking cookies to engage in remarketing or retargeting advertising. This means that using a cookie installed on your computer, we will continue to show WSRB promotional material to you across the internet based on your past visits to our Website. THIS COOKIE DOES NOT COLLECT ANY PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION ABOUT YOU OR GIVE ACCESS TO YOUR COMPUTERThis allows us to make special offers and continue to market our Services to those who have shown an interest in the past. You can opt out of remarketing tracking cookies by setting your browser to refuse cookies or by deleting those cookies. 

Do Not Track

Certain web browsers feature a “Do Not Track” option which sends a signal to the website not to track the user’s activity. Because there is not a universal understanding of how to respond to “Do Not Track” signals, our Websites do not recognize or respond to such “Do Not Track” requests from Internet browsers or mobile devices.  

Children’s privacy 

WSRB’s services and/or websites are not directed to anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 18, and individuals under the age of 18 are not eligible to use our Websites or Services. In the event we learn that we have collected personally identifiable information from a minor, we will immediately delete such information. If you believe your child may have provided us with personally identifiable information without your consent, please contact us at the contact information set forth at the end of this Privacy Policy 

Controlling your information and preferences 

We give you the ability to access and edit your Account Information and preferences. You may edit your personally identifiable information at any time by logging into your account. If you are unable to change your Account Information by logging in, complete the help request at help.wsrb.com/kb-tickets/new  

You (or your employer) may request a correction to or deletion of your account by completing the help request at help.wsrb.com/kb-tickets/new. Upon termination of your account, we will delete any personally identifiable information we are not obligated to keep for record-keeping purposes or to comply with applicable law.  We will retain your non-personal information, including but not limited to the addresses for which you have requested reports, after the termination of your account.

You can opt out of receiving certain emails from us by clicking the “unsubscribe” link contained in the email. Please note, however, that you may not be able to opt out of some communications, including important announcements, notices, or service-related communications. 

Security 

We take the security of your personally identifiable information very seriously. We maintain industry-standard physical, electronic, technical, administrative, and procedural safeguards to protect your personally identifiable information. Your Account Information is password-protected for privacy and security. In certain areas, we use industry-standard SSL encryption to protect data transmissions. 

You need to know, however, that due to the open communicative nature of the Internet, no transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee that the transmission of any personally identifiable information between WSRB and you, or between you and WSRB, will be free from unauthorized access by third parties. You transmit personally identifiable information to us at your own risk. 

Users outside the United States 

Our Websites are operated from our facility within the United States of America (USA) but may be accessed from anywhere in the world. Personally identifiable information collected on our Websites may be stored, transferred to, and processed in the United States or any other country in which WSRB or our service providers maintain facilities. By using this Website, you consent to any such transfer or storage of your information outside of your country of residence. 

We make no representation and take no responsibility for any applicable laws and regulations of other countries. If you are located outside the USA, data security laws in the USA may not offer as much protection as the laws in your country of residence. By providing any personally identifiable information to WSRB, you consent to the transfer of your information to, and the storage of your information on, servers located in the USA. Persons who choose to access the Websites from locations outside the USA do so at their own risk. 

Your California privacy rights  

Under California Law, California residents have the right to request in writing from a business: (a) a list of the categories of personal information, such as name, address, email address, and the type of services provided to the customer, that a business has disclosed to third parties during the immediately preceding calendar year for the third parties direct marketing purposes, and (b) the names and addresses of all such third parties. To request the above information, please send a written request to the contact information below. We will respond to such written requests within thirty (30) days following receiptPlease note that we are only required to respond to each customer once per calendar year.
