2022: A Year In Review
“Celebrate what you want to see more of.”
– Tom Peters
Each year we work hard to bring increased value to our WSRB Subscribers, and 2022 was especially fruitful. Here are some notable strides we’ve made to ensure the best possible service to you, your customers, and the communities you serve.
Innovation
The Innovation team introduced two new tools and data sets for underwriters in 2022, available to Subscribers in Washington at no charge:
Both tools are additions to our BuildingMetrix Suite, which also includes the following tools and data sets introduced over the past two years:
• CannabisFind
• HempGuard
• BurnScout
• QuakeScout
• AdultFamilyHomeSpotter

Inspection Services
Commercial building inspections provide the data we use to produce loss costs and Commercial Property Reports (CPRs). In 2022, inspection requests increased by nearly 40%. We hired and trained two new Commercial Property Analysts to ensure that our team can handle the increased demand and ensure timely and accurate inspections, loss costs, and CPRs for our Subscribers.
Public Protection
Our Public Protection team conducts protection class and BCEGS® gradings on behalf of our Subscribers. The team’s innovative and cutting-edge Community Protection application rolled out in late 2022. This new cloud-based app, developed by WSRB’s Technology Solutions department, will allow the Public Protection team to handle gradings around the state faster and generate more usable data, while saving fire professionals valuable time in the process.
Public Protection also announced two WSRB fire prevention scholarships for the Washington Fire Chiefs (WFC) Conference and Fire Prevention Institute (FPI). These scholarships help our Subscribers and communities around Washington; as more fire professionals gain access to invaluable information and training, everyone benefits from the increased safety they can provide. Learn more about these scholarships in my CEO Perspective on the subject.
Technology Solutions
In addition to building the Community Protection application for Public Protection, our Technology Solutions team improved existing processes and consistently delivered accurate, timely data and information to our Subscribers. Here is a quick list of some of their additional achievements:
- Deployed a new GIS server environment in the cloud, minimizing potential downtime and increasing processing speeds.
- Upgraded PropertyEDGE to the latest version of ArcGIS, allowing for more functionality and customization within the application.
- Improved synergy and cross-training to ensure that anyone on the team can resolve issues with minimal downtime.
Information Security
Security and trust are at the core of our commitment to our Subscribers and customers. The Information Security team implemented upgrades to WSRB’s Information Security systems to ensure security across the organization. The team is developing a culture of security through policies, standards, and procedures, with a strong emphasis on employee education and training.
We look forward to another year of providing our Subscribers and customers with the information and services they need to succeed. 2023 offers us more opportunities to grow and innovate, and we're excited to see what the future holds.
